FEWER PASSAGES:
iPSCs, seeded at 1 million cells/mL, expanded without passaging to 500 million cells/mL. L-wnt -3A cells were seeded as low as 0.1 million cells per mL and expanded without passaging to 450 million cells/mL, which constitutes a 4,500-fold expansion.
HIGHER CELL DENSITY:
High cell densities in the alginate tubes translate into high cell densities in the SUHPERB – 50. Suspension cells reach 60 million cells/mL in the SUHPERB – 50. Our pending patent for culturing adherent cells in alginate tubes is a process to extrude micro-carriers in alginate tubes. Adherent cells have densities of 10 million cells/mL in the SUHPERB – 50.
SIMPLIFY SCALING UP AND SCALING OUT:
The alginate tubes conserve the niche environment of the cells and insulate the cells from effects of fluid motions in the bulk of the reactor. The niche environment is preserved regardless of reactor size. This is the principle for simplified scaling.
